On May 16, 2004, NOAA's National Geodetic Survey dedicated the commemorative geodetic marker at the Expedition's Departure - Camp River Dubois national signature event in Wood River, Illinois.
The National Geodetic Survey's Chris Pearson, the State Advisor to Illinois, gave the dedication speech on behalf of the National Geodetic Survey. Speaking Along with Chris was Shawn Van Camp. President of the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association, and Duane Weiss, past president of the IPLSA. Former NGS state advisor Ron Brewer helped unveil the commemorative marker at the ceremony.
Special thanks go to the volunteers from the Sagamon Chapter of the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association who helped with the marker's construction.
