CF0355 1910 S USGS JSH THIS STATION IS IN APPROXIMATELY THE SAME LOCATION AS THE UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY STATION. IT IS ON THE SE AND LOWER ONE OF THE TWO HIGHEST PEAKS OF THE MULE MOUNTAINS, 7-1/2 MILES N, 5 DEG W FROM NACO, 4 MILES NW OF DON LUIS, AND 2-1/2 MILES W OF BISBEE, TOWNS ON THE EL PASO AND SOUTHWESTERN RAILROAD. THE STATION IS MARKED BY A STANDARD DISK STATION MARK, CEMENTED IN THE TOP OF A 1-INCH IRON PIPE, 18 INCHES LONG, WHICH WAS DRIVEN DOWN FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THE REFERENCE MARK, A CROSS OUT IN A LEDGE OF ROCK WITH A ONE-HALF INCH DRILL HOLE ONE-FOURTH OF AN INCH DEEP AT ITS CENTER, IS 5.79 METERS FROM THE STATION N 30 DEG 36 MIN E.
CF0355 1936 G CGS WM STATION RECOVERED. STATION MARK IN GOOD CONDITION. REFERENCE MARK, A DRILL HOLE IN ROCK, BARELY DISCERNIBLE. NEW REFERENCE MARK AND AZIMUTH MARK ESTABLISHED. REVISED DESCRIPTION AS FOLLOWS-- ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES W OF BISBEE, 1-1/2 MILES SW OF U.S. HIGHWAY 80, ON THE SOUTHEASTERLY OF TWO SUMMITS WHICH ARE PRACTICALLY OF THE SAME HEIGHT, AND THE HIGHEST OF THE BRANCH OF THE MULE MOUNTAINS, LYING SW OF U.S. HIGHWAY 80, AND OVERLOOKING NACO. LAND IS OWNED BY W.J. CLEVELAND, WHO LIVES 1 MILE NNE OF STATION, IN CANYON. REACHED FROM BISBEE BY U.S. HIGHWAY 80 NW UP STEEP GRADE ABOUT 2 MILES TO SUMMIT. THENCE FOLLOW OLD TRAIL UP RIDGE SW, FOLLOWING GENERAL COURSE OF SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE FENCE, ABOUT 1-1/2 MILES TO SUMMIT AND STATION. STATION IS NEAR NW CORNER OF FLAT SUMMIT, WHICH HAS A LARGE OPEN GRASSY AREA ON N SLOPE. CAN ALSO BE REACHED FROM SUMMIT OF HIGHWAY BY LEFT FORK, OLD ROAD, DOWN S SIDE OF CANYON ABOUT 1/2 MILE. THENCE LEFT, UP A SIDE CANYON ABOUT 1/2 MILE TO CLEVELANDS HOUSE. A TRAIL LEADS TO A MINE A SHORT DISTANCE NW OF STATION. MARK IS A STANDARD TABLET IN TOP OF 1-INCH IRON PIPE, DRIVEN FLUSH WITH SURFACE OF GROUND, STAMPED MULE 1910. IT WAS SURROUNDED BY A RING OF FLAT ROCKS. REFERENCE MARK 1910 IS A SHALLOW CROSS OUT ON POINT OF EXPOSED LEDGE ROCK, WITH SMALL DRILL HOLE AT CENTER. THE ROCK HAS ERODED UNTIL MARK IS HARD TO FIND. REFERNCE MARK 1936 IS A STANDARD TABLET SET IN NARROW EXPOSED OUTCROP OF ROCK SSW OF STATION, ON FLAT SUMMIT OF MOUNTAIN. IT IS SLIGHTLY BELOW LEVEL OF GRASS, AND MAY BECOME COVERED. STAMPED MULE 1910 1936. AZIMUTH MARK IS STANDARD TABLET SET IN SOLID ROCK ON SW RIM OF RIDGE LYING NE OF U.S. HIGHWAY 80. REACHED FROM SUMMIT OF HIGHWAY BY STEEP ROAD TO RIGHT. FOLLOW THIS ROAD 1.0 MILE TO END OF GRADE. CONTINUE NW ON TRAIL 0.15 MILE TO GOVERNMENT FENCE. CONTINUE W 0.25 MILE, AND AZIMUTH MARK IS 28 PACES S OF ROAD, ON A LARGE ROCK OUTCROP, ABOUT 40 YARDS N OF POINT WHERE MOUNTAIN SLOPES STEEPLY TO S, AND 5 FEET W OF A SMALL ROCK CAIRN. STAMPED MULE 1910 1936.
CF0355 1938 O CGS FGJ THIS IS A NEW DESCRIPTION TO STATION MULE. STATION IS IN SEC. S 12, R 23 E, T 23 S, 2-1/2 MILES W OF THE TOWN OF BISBEE, ABOUT 7-1/2 MILES N, 5 DEG W OF THE TOWN OF NACO, ON THE SE AND LOWER ONE OF THE TWO HIGH PEAKS OF THE MULE MOUNTAINS. STATION MARK IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, WAS ESTABLISHED AND IS STAMPED 1938. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2, STAMPED 1910 AND 1936 WAS RECOVERED. IT IS SET IN ROCK OUTCROP AND IS ABOUT 2 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THE U.S.G.S. STATION COULD NOT BE RECOVERED. STATION IS REACHED FROM THE POST OFFICE IN BISBEE BY GOING W ON U.S. HIGHWAY 80, 1.9 MILES TO A FORK LEFT AT A POINT WHERE THE HIGHWAY MAKES A LARGE CURVE TO THE RIGHT. HERE LEAVE THE HIGHWAY AND GO STRAIGHT AHEAD ON THE DIRT ROAD 0.05 MILE AND TAKE THE LEFT FORK. GO 0.1 MILE TO A FORK AT A BRIDGE AND A SIGN PRIVATE ROAD. THIS IS THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. FROM THE BRIDGE CONTINUE UP THE ROAD, RIGHT FORK, ABOUT 30 STEPS TO A TRAIL ON THE RIGHT. FOLLOW THIS TRAIL SW UP THE RIDGE TO THE DIVIDE IN THE SADDLE AND A FENCE. THENCE RIGHT, NW ALONG THE FENCE LINE TO ITS JUNCTION WITH AN E-W FENCE. CROSS THE N SIDE OF THE FENCE AND GO NW ABOUT 150 YARDS TO THE STATION. AZIMUTH MARK, IS ABOUT 0.2 MILE SSW OF THE STATION ON THE FIRST HILL WHICH IS ABOUT 150 FEET LOWER THAN THE STATION.

CF0355 1968 G AMS * MARK IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 2.6 AIRMILES (W) OF BISBEE, ARIZONA. 5.2 AIRMILES (WNW) OF WARREN. TO REACH MARK FROM POST OFFICE IN BISBEE GO (W) ON OLD HWY U.S. 80 THRU BISBEE 1.8 MILES TO POINT WHERE HIGHWAY MAKES A SHARP RIGHT CURVE. AT THE CURVE, TURN LEFT (SW) ON A NARROW PAVED ROAD FOR 0.05 MILE TO A Y-INTERSECTION. TURN LEFT (S) AND GO 0.1 MILE TO A SHARP LEFT CURVE AND A NARROW BRIDGE AND END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. FROM HERE PACK (SW) ALONG A RIDGE TO TOP OF HILL AND A FENCE. HERE TURN RIGHT (NW) AND FOLLOW FENCE THROUGH A SADDLE AND UP THE NEXT HILL TO THE INTERSECTION OF THE FENCE WITH AN E-W FENCE. MARK IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 150 YARDS (NW) OF FENCE CORNER (2-1/4 HOUR PACK). MARK IS HIGH POINT ON HILL. STATION IS MARKED BY A USC AND GS BRONZE DISK SET IN ROCK AT GROUND LEVEL. STAMPED MULE 1910. R.M. 1 IS A USC AND GS BRONZE DISK SET IN CONCRETE AT GROUND LEVEL. STAMPED MULE NO 1 1938. IT IS LOCATED 12.67 M (W) OF MARK ON A MAG. AZ. OF 277 DEG AND A DE OF -0.34 M. R.M. 2 IS A USC AND GS BRONZE DISK SET IN ROCK AT GROUND LEVEL. STAMPED MULE 1910 1936. IT IS LOCATED 4.03 M (N) OF MARK OF MARK ON A MAG. AZ. OF 356 DEG AND A DE OF -016 M. AZIMUTH MARK WAS SEARCHED FOR BUT NOT RECOVERED. CONDITION OF EXISTING MARKS IS EXCELLENT. VIEW IS EXCELLENT IN ALL DIRECTIONS.
CF0355 1982 G AZDT GH THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS AND THE AZIMUTH MARK WERE RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED IN GOOD CONDITION. A NEW ROUTE TO THE STATION FOLLOWS. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN BISBEE, TRAVEL SOUTHWEST ALONG STATE ROUTE 92 FOR 1.65 MILES TO A CROSSROAD. TURN RIGHT AND TRAVEL NORTH FOR 0.35 MILES TO A FORK. TAKE THE LEFT FORK AND TRAVEL NORTHWEST FOR 0.4 MILE TO A GATE. PASS THROUGH GATE AND CONTINUE NORTHWEST FOR 1.55 MILES TO A FORK AT A WATER TANK AND A LOADING CHUTE BEAR RIGHT AND TRAVEL NORTHEAST AND NORTH FOR 1.45 MILES TO A T-ROAD ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND TRAVEL NORTH 0.8 MILE TO END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. PACK NORTH UP THE DRAIN TO A DRAINAGE JUNCTION, TAKE THE LEFT DRAIN FOR 150 FEET, BEAR TO THE RIGHT OUT OF THE DRAIN AND CLIMB UP SLOPE IN A NORTHEAST DIRECTION TO THE HIGHEST POINT AND THE STATION.

CF0355 20061209 G GEOCAC DJH LOCATED THE BENCHMARK PER THE DESCRIPTION PROVIDED. CIRCLE OF STONES IS NO LONGER AROUND THE MARK. A SINGLE STONE NOW RESTS ON TOP OF THE MARKER. REFERENCE MARKS WERE NOT LOCATED AZIMUTH MARK NOT SEARCHED FOR.
CF0355 20240310 G INDIV JAS REACHED THE MARK FROM MULE PASS VIA SOCIAL TRAIL. FOUND AT EXACT COORDINATE POSITION AS ON DATASHEET, UNDER A ROCK. WHEN TESTING THE STABILITY OF THE MARK IT WOULD NOT MOVE. RMS SEARCHED FOR (WITH AID FROM A METAL DETECTOR) ALTHOUGH THEY WERE NOT RECOVERED, DUE TO CONVOLUTED INFORMATION REGARDING THEIR PLACEMENT AND HOSTILE VEGETATION. A FIRE DESTROYING ALL VEGETATION WOULD BE PREFERABLE TO SEARCH FOR THE RMS. BOTH AZIMUTH MARKS WERE FOUND. TO REACH AZIMUTH 1936 THE PREVIOUS DESCRIPTION IS GOOD ENOUGH. AT APPROXIMATELY 31.4681392, -109.9431206. TO REACH AZIMUTH 1938, FOLLOW PACK TRAIL SOUTHWEST TO SADDLE AND THEN SUMMIT OF NEAREST HILL. STAY TO THE EAST OF THE RIDGE TO AVOID DENSE CHOLLA. UNDER A SINGLE ROCK AND NEXT TO A ROCK CAIRN, AT 31.4416043, -109.9602911.
