Height Modernization in New Mexico has formally grown since partnering with the Texas Height Modernization Program. The Texas Spatial Reference Center and New Mexico State University plan to establish two Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) in New Mexico, provide technical support for the CORS installation, and continue outreach to the professional surveying community.
Height Modernization forums and digital leveling workshops were held to help train surveyors in New Mexico. The site selection and installation of two CORS continues to move forward.
New Mexico is part of both the Western and Central Regions. Coordination with regional partners has been instrumental in the development of New Mexico’s Height Modernization Program. Several state surveyors were introduced to the program at a Colorado Height Modernization forum, and a funding opportunity grew out of collaborative efforts with the Texas Spatial Reference Center. Additional partnerships have also developed with federal agencies including the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Forest Service and the University NAVSTAR Consortium (UNAVCO).
