OPUS Privacy Policy

1. This World Wide Web page is provided as a public service by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS).
    
2. Generally, the data file you upload and the email address you provide are both discarded immediately after processing. The only exceptions occurs when the input dataset causes the OPUS process to fail, or when using OPUS Database. In the case of processing failure, the data may be kept for a few days to assist programmers in diagnosing and fixing any problems NGS discovers in the OPUS software. OPUS Database collects user supplied information, and along with the OPUS results, are both kept on our database and are freely accessable to any user when requesting datasheets from NGS.
    
3. For site management, information is collected for statistical purposes. This government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for such purposes as determining technical design specifications, identifying system performance or problem areas, and accumulating demographic data to improve service.
    
4. This Web site does not use persistent tracking technologies including Web "cookies."
    
5. For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs hardware and software to monitor network traffic and to identify unauthorized attempts to add or alter information, or otherwise cause damage or interfere with information delivery. Except for authorized law enforcement investigations, no attempt is made to identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs may be stored indefinitely for use in statistical analysis or to protect the security and integrity of the computer system.
