A history of the term “NAD 83 (NSRS)”
NGS ESC meetings:
-
1998 May 6 – First mention of the term as “what the Canadians
would like”. No decision, no commitment to this term is made.
- 1998 June 24 – Brought up in discussion as an alternative to “NAD
83 (date)” without any vote.
- 2001 Aug 22 – Proposal to use NAD 83 (NSRS) in a much larger general
policy regarding the re-adjustment – “ESC decided to have Erika
[Wilson] make suggested changes and have ESC members vote by E-mail and present
policy statement at next ESC meeting.”
In between ESC meetings, and E-mail vote on the policy failed.
- 2001 Sep 27 – New policy toward the re-adjustment was presented at
meeting, including use of the term “NAD 83(NSRS)”. The vote passed
5-0-0.
As such, on Sept 27, 2001, NGS officially adopted the name “NAD
83 (NSRS)” as the name of associated with the re-adjustment of the NSRS.
