A prototype small absolute gravimeter was developed by Micro-g Solutions Inc.
for NOAA under Phase II SBIR contract #50-DKNA-6-90138. Delivery of the
prototype was taken in June 1998 and first tests were conducted on the Rocky
Mountain Calibration Line near Idaho Springs, CO in mid November. The tests
indicated that several upgrades need to be added to the prototype instrument
and that operational procedures also need to be modified for mobile operations.
A planned upgrade to the mini-gravimeter is to add a sensor and transducer
element to sense and adjust the position of the superspring remotely and to add
an environmental sensor package. A small tent is also being designed to shield
the instrument during data acquisition. Operator training and additional testing
after instrument upgrades are scheduled in April 1999.
