SYMPTOM: program failed catastrophically during computation of statistics
when wild a priori residual drove
"basement window" to non-sensical value.
PROBLEM: Wild a priori residual drove "basement window" to non-sensical
value. This was not trapped by the overall statistics routine.
CORRECTION: Test "basement window", bw, and squared post-fit residual, pfres2,
for realistic (non-negative) values in logsts.f. Trap and print
error message in these cases.
