The many definitions of “height”
Ellipsoidal Height (h)
- Height from the ellipsoid to the Earth’s surface
- Usually derived from GPS measurements
- Easy to obtain through GPS
- Has few physical applications
- e.g. water does not necessarily run ‘downhill’ in ellipsoid heights
