  This is an image generated from 30"x30" orthometric (above mean sea level)
heights covering the principal islands of the state of Hawaii.  Interesting 
features to note about this image are:

  The 3 peaks of the island of Hawaii (Mauna Loa - central, Mauna Kea -
North, and Hualalai - West) are all prominently visible, including some
nice details, such as Mauna Loa's crater.

  Notice that as the islands proceed Northwestward away from Hawaii, the
elevations have a tendency to decrease.  Due to the nature of these islands,
which form as the crust moves over a "hot spot", new, volcanically
active islands are created, which eventually move off of the hot spot.
