Image Name : e96mxn Boundaries : Lat 14N to 33N ; Lon 241E to 285E Color Scale, Upper (Red) : 6.8 meters and higher Color Scale, Lower (Magenta) : -47.5 meters and lower Data Max value : 5.7 meters Data Min value : -47.6 meters Illuminated from the : East This is an image generated from 2'x2' geoid undulations covering Mexico and surrounding areas. These undulations were generated from the EGM96 spherical harmonic model of the Earth's external gravitational potential, but NOT including a height anomaly to geoid height correction. Some interesting features to note about this image are: Unlike the MEXICO97 model, the resolution of the EGM96 grid is 30'. Thus, even though the values are gridded at 2' spacings, features smaller than 30' wide are not resolved in the model. The geoid high (red) of 5.7 meters is centered over Honduras. While less detailed than the same high in image m97 (mexico97), this feature still shows its broad characteristics. Large features of the geoid, such as those induced by Pacific Basin, and the continental shelves are visible. However, features that are smaller, such as sea mounts are not seen in this image. das/dgm 4/14/97
