Some interesting features to note about this image are: The extensive E/W red feature (paralleled by a magenta feature) is the effect of the Puerto Rico trench on the deflections of the vertical. Some of the largest geoid tilts in the world are found here, inducing large deflections of the vertical as well. The edges of the trough and ridge systems running from Mexico toward Cuba and the Caribbean Sea can be distinguished as elongated, linear features. The large red signal off the north shore of South America is due to the extension of the Lesser Antilles islands along the coast. das/hjs 7/9/1997
