  This is an image generated from 2'x2' terrain-corrected Bouguer gravity 
anomalies covering the principal islands of the state of Hawaii.  Some 
interesting features to note about this image are:

  The low (purple) surrounding the islands is known as a "gravity moat".
The islands rest on thinner oceanic lithosphere, and the mechanical
response of the Pacific plate is to cause a broad depression of the Earth's
crust into the mantle. This depression results in a lower gravitational 
attraction around the islands, yielding this gravity moat.
