A magnitude 7.9 earthquake occurred near Denali National Park, AK on November 3, 2002.  The geographic coordinates of the epicenter are 63.520N and 147.530W and its depth is 5.0 km.

We have determined 3-dimensional displacements associated with this earthquake at several continuously operating reference stations (CORS) located in Alaska.

We computed pre-earthquake positional coordinates for these CORS by using GPS data observed during the 5-day period immediately preceding the earthquake.  We computed postearthquake positional coordinates by using GPS data observed during the 5-day period that begins 9 days following the earthquake.  Hence, our computed displacements include much of the postearthquake motion.

We processed each day of GPS data using the PAGES software developed by NGS with the positional coordinates of stations YELL and BAY2 constrained to previously adopted values.  (Station YELL, whose approximate coordinates are 62.5 deg. N and 245.5 deg. E, is located in Canada to the east of the area displayed in the associated map.)

We combined each 5-day set of GPS data using the ADJUST software developed by NGS with the positional coordinates of YELL constrained.

The associated map displays the displacements obtained by subtracting our pre-earthquake coordinates from our postearthquake coordinates.

These preliminary results will be enhanced by including additional days of GPS data.
