2. Why do the utility programs, downloaded from the directory cors/utilities on the CORS file server, not work on the receiving machine?

If you download executable files from a remote machine using the FTP (File Transfer Protocol), make sure to set the transfer to binary mode by typing

bin or binary

at the FTP prompt. Executable files should be transferred in binary mode and ASCII files transferred in ascii mode. Also, make sure to download the appropriate executable for your specific platform (computer).
